The buildings that house these shops are among the oldest on Powis street, They were built in 1866-8 by a local builder, William Harris. One of them was a stationery shop and the other sold Hardware.. The shop currently occupied by Percy ingle bakers has also previously been a branch of Dolcis shoes, Zales Jewellers and 'Risky' fashion.. The shop called Target was previously a branch of T-Mobile and was also a 'Fosters' menswear..
These two buildings are the remains of a row of 7 similar ones.. that were built around the turn of the century 1896-1902, designed by H.H.Church Warren James used to be Swears and Wells in the 50s and Salad Bowl in the 80s and Krisp was Shoefayre in the 60s and "Fashion ways" in the 80s
