This modern block replaced a large Furlongs store that was demolished in 1960.. This block was built in 1964-65 . Argos was previously a Wallis supermarket . Clarkes shoes was originally George Scobles bath centre and then Brentford nylons. For some years the local job centre had offices above Clarkes.

McDonalds rebuilt this property in 1974 as the very first McDonalds in the UK. Number 60 ( Noir Menswear ) has formerly been Curry's and Dixons .
