This property was originally built for a Clothing company called the Scotch house, in 1899.. The railings above the first floor have Thistle and lion emblems.. In more recent times part of the shop was used by Cash Converters , the right hand side has the remains of a sign from a company called Marley Tiles .. In 1976 a company called Woodhouse furniture traded here In 1986 a company called Thoms traded here In 1962 Jays furnishing was here copyright Chris Mansfield

The Boots building was built in the early 60s and Boots moved in shortly after. The building that was previously on this site was built in 1894-5 for George Leavy an Outfitter and Draper copyright Chris Mansfield

This row of shops was built in 1882 just after Hare st had been widened. The upper part of of number 50 Powis street, Charles dance, retains it's original form the next three buildings were re faced in the 1960s. The shop occupied by 7th Sun in this picture was once Hedley Vicars butchers.. The "AC DC" mini market is the spot where a Maynards sweet shop stood during the 60s... Before Charles Dance , Number 50 Hare street used to be the premises of Alf Harley & Sons, mens outfitters.. I am still trying to find out exactly when Charles Dance began trading.. This corner unit was once known as Gabriel's corner after Isaac Gabriel and co; the first occupants of the building in 1882 .. There would once have been a pavillion style dome just behind the clock .. Gabriel's were a tailor and outfitter. Although the clock is still original the exterior of the building has been much altered. A row of original tiling still remains on the upper part of the building and some original window remain Other occupiers of this site have been Bamford Jewellers.. JJ Jewellers.. The British heart foundation opened here on 13th december 2011 .. This shop has in previous years been.. Robinson Taylors .. Electromode.. Omni.. Tesco.. Finefare probably not in that order :-) The site was built in 1960 for Robinson Taylor furnishers, who had occupied the same spot since the turn of the century .

This large unit was built in 1929 as Montague Burtons first purpose built shop in Woolwich .. Two foundation stones still exist at either ends of the building .. A large drapers store called Thompson & Jackson stood here prior to 1929 but the site was cleared for road widening. After Burtons gave up the shop it was occupied by a couple of different carpet shops ... Cyril Lord in the 60s... Eastern in the 80s The Cafe has been here since the mid 90s

The Prince Albert or Rose’s wine house, goes back to the 1840s when it was a beer shop associated with the adjacent brewery. In 1888 it came into the hands of E. J. Rose and Co. who rebuilt in 1928, A storage area at the rear was added in 1930 . copyright Chris Mansfield

This pair were originally the "Home & Colonial store" and later taken over by the RACS. In 1961 The Co op made alterations and turned the shop into a supermarket with stair case at the rear leading into the main department store. In later years the shop was used by the co op to sell domestic electrical goods. I just found out today ( august 2013 ) that these buildings are going to be restored with the original fronts intact .. copyright Chris Mansfield
