The Olympic torch relay came to woolwich on July 21st 2012.. After a brief appearance in General Gordon square the flame was transferred to a Miners Davy lamp for the trip over the Woolwich ferry.. No naked flames allowed on the ferry copyright Chris Mansfield

In Contrast to the recent sad and gloomy news from Woolwich, Saturday 1st June 2013 saw General Gordon place hosting a summer fun day .. The BNP had hoped to protest here but the Police would not allow it, and their demonstration was held in Whitehall instead. copyright Chris Mansfield
