This red brick building can be found in Polytechnic street ( formerly Lower market street ) It is attached to back of the old 1841 Town hall building.. Originally this site was the garden of the borough surveyor. The town hall next door was used for all sorts of things, including coroners court and pretty soon, as the town was expanding it bacame too small for all the demands put upon it. In 1892 this place, designed by H.H.Church was built to be the County court . copyright Chris Mansfield
This building was actually the second town hall built for Woolwich. A couple of years earlier the board of works had built a very similar building just a few yards further up the road... just beyond the site of the old Library. As soon as this first building was complete it was bought by the newly formed Metropolitan police. The council made a good profit on the sale and immediately built themselves a new town hall as shown in this picture . copyright Chris Mansfield
